Progetto d’arte urbana nel quartiere 167, seconda edizione
Si è appena conclusa la seconda edizione di 167 Art Project, che dedica due settimane alla street art nel cuore del quartiere 167B di Lecce, zona stadio. Colori, opere monumentali, nuovi e dinamici sensi degli spazi condivisi dagli abitanti del quartiere, hanno scandito i giorni previsti per l’intervento. Le palazzine e le loro facciate sono state riformulate e riconsiderate come una tela bianca su cui intervenire con la creatività e l’attitudine degli artisti coinvolti. Dimitris Taxis di Athene e Sabotaje Al Montaje delle Canarie, Spagna, ospiti e protagonisti di questa edizione, hanno pensato e creato trame composite, realizzando opere connotate da un’attenta lettura sociologica del luogo e della realtà circostante – TERRA E MARE, i due percorsi di ispirazione concettuale e visiva.
Dimitris Taxis attraverso il suo murale ha raccontato il momento della raccolta di uva, in un “frame” rappresentativo. “Viktoria”, il titolo della sua opera, un’immagine quasi romantica, dai toni caldi e delicati, mette al centro di un panorama salentino nel periodo della vendemmia, una donna nell’azione di cogliere l’uva. Una sintesi senza tempo, che racconta, a colpo d’occhio la relazione di scambio tra l’uomo ed il suo ambiente, ispirando lo spettatore ad un senso fortemente identificativo e ad amare la propria terra, prendendosi cura di lei.
Sabotaje Al Montaje,l’artista che ha vissuto tutta la sua vita sul mare delle Canarie è particolarmente sensibile a tematiche ambientaliste. Infatti, sul muro realizzato per l’occasione a Lecce ,ha puntato lo sguardo sulla problema relativo all’ inquinamento delle acque. La raffigurazione, monumentale, di un uomo intento a guardare il suo pescato, mette in luce la presenza di tappi di plastica pescati dal mare invece dei pesci. Ancora una volta sensibilità per le tradizioni, l’attività della pesca, ed il legame con il luogo, il mare, divengono percorsi artistici con cui esprimere il presente e le sue dinamiche critiche e conflittuali.
Farhan Siki, artista indonesiano di fama internazionale, ha dato avvio ai “lavori”, con la sua sorprendente visita, lasciando per la terza volta nel Salento, il suo indelebile segno sui muri del quartiere, creando un dipinto astratto, similmente ad una trama di alfabeti che mescolandosi e sovrapponendo, alludono alla bellezza della contaminazione dei linguaggi.
Il progetto, reduce del successo e della sentita accoglienza dell’anno precedente, si colloca in una linea di continuità e forte autodeterminazione della comunità della zona. Infatti questa seconda edizione è stata voluta fortemente dalla comunità parrocchiale San Giovanni Battista, nella persona di Don Gerardo, e dalla coesione che la causa ha scaturito tra i suoi abitanti. La comunità del quartiere ha affidato e richiesto l’intervento organizzativo e la direzione artistica di 167B street, laboratorio d’arte urbana, nome ispirato all’omonimo quartiere, diretto da Ania Kitlas e CHEKOS ART. The second edition of the 167 Art Project has just finished. It dedicated two weeks to street art in the heart of the 167B district of Lecce and the football stadium area. Colors, monumental works, new and dynamic senses of the spaces shared by the inhabitants of the neighbourhood have marked all of the intervention days. The buildings and their facades have been re-formulated, re-considered as a blank canvas on which to intervene with the creativity and attitude of involved artists. Guests and protagonists of this edition were Dimitris Taxis from Athene and Sabotaje Al Montaje from the Canary Islands. They have made composite plots by creating works driven from a careful sociological reading of the place and the surrounding reality – TERRA e MARE.
Dimitris Taxis through his mural described the moment of grape harvesting in a representative “frame”. “Viktoria”, the title of his work, an almost romantic image with warm and delicate tones presents a woman in the action of picking grapes at the center of a Salentine landscape during the harvest. A timeless synthesis that shows, at a glance, the relationship of exchange between man and his environment, inspiring the viewer to enrich the sense of identification with the land, the sense of love to their land and enforcing care for it.
Sabotaje Al Montaje, the artist who has lived all his life on the Canarian Sea is particularly sensitive to the environmental issues. On the wall, created in Lecce, he focused on the problem of water pollution. The monumental representation of a man watching his fish highlights the presence of plastic caps caught by the sea instead of fishes. Once again, sensitivity to the traditions, to the activity of fishing, and the link with the place, the sea, became artistic pathway to critically express the conflicting dynamics of nowadays.
Farhan Siki, an internationally renowned Indonesian artist, started his “works” with a surprising visit in Salento. Already for the third time, he will leave an indelible mark on the walls of the 167 district. He is creating an abstract painting, similar to a plot of alphabets that mix and overlap, allude to the beauty of the contamination of languages.
The project, thanks to the success and the warm welcome in the previous year’s edition, is located in a line of continuity and strong self-determination of the community in this area. Moreover, this second edition was strongly desired by the parish community San Giovanni Battista, in particular Don Gerardo. The community of the district has entrusted and requested the intervention and the artistic direction to 167B street, urban art laboratory, directed by Ania Kitlas and CHEKOS ART. Project was realized thanks to the sponsor of colors Sikkens Italia and thanks to cooperation with Colori e Sistemi Lecce.
